She talked about Canadian Residential Schools and the Recent Truth and Reconciliation Report that was just presented in Ottawa. The students learned a great deal and were very respectful with great questions.

Book Club Section 2 is tomorrow, be prepared.

Math for grade 6, there is an area and perimeter quiz on Monday. Students should know the difference between the two, and when to use them. Review sheet from Thursday is a good thing to look at to know what the test will be like.

Costa Rica Cards, students have been working on cards that compare Canada and Costa Rica. Areas for comparison are: government, international relations, resources, environment, society/culture, and history. The students have prepared two cards per topic. We will use them for an essay and a game show we will play at the end of the unit. Cards are due next Wednesday.

The math sheet for grade 6's today is due tomorrow, most students have finished this. Questions 11, 12, 13 are not due, the rest are however.

Spelling tests are now every week. Lesson 12 is on Tuesday, this includes the test and the sentences. We have finished our times tables testing, except for some students who have not passed the tests.

We read the first half of Chapter 15, the Needle's Eye in Banner in the Sky

Science Brochure due on Monday, there is no more class time for this assignment.

Science Brochure Grade 6 due monday.

Each page should have the following, from student notes:
Page A- what the zoo is doing to help the endangered species of the area, could be recovery projects, education, habitat recovery, etc.
Page B- More about Part A, with diagrams, maps, additional info, visuals.
Page C- This part is two panels, one per animal (swift fox, Massasauga rattle snake, or Oregon spotted frog) telling about the animal and it structural and behavioural adaptations) each animal needs a labelled diagram with it.
Page D-What You Can Do panel, telling visitors what they can do to help the animals, donate, learn, tell your friends, donate property, etc.
Page E- Title page, name of zoo, picture, a few sentences about the zoo
Page F- Info page, location, contact info, include visiter testimonials, website, etc
Students have the instruction sheet in their science binder, as well as information, sketches, etc.

Students can use info from class and create ideas as well.

The mindful poster is due on Monday and same with the unmindful poster.

Grade 6 skiing tomorrow we are leaving right at 8:30 am.

Grade 6- Math Fair today was a fabulous success! Students had great projects and were good hosts when explaining their problem. Their marks were sent home in their agendas this afternoon.

Valentine's Day Activities

Tomorrow at 12:50 pm we are heading downtown to drop off some good wishes for the public. This is part of our social emotional learning and a valuable way for students to impact others in a positive manner. If you can help-I need 2-3 parents to escort a small group to businesses downtown. We would leave at 12:50 and return by 1:40 pm, in time for the

Valentine's Day Dance at 1:45 pm

Spelling Test next Tuesday, and questions due for Unit 8

This afternoon the internet was down, sorry this is a late entry.

We are coming to the end of the time for our Social Studies Timelines. Students have no more time on the internet in school. Tomorrow is the last day for class time. The whole timeline is due next Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Students will have time on Wednesday of next week but it instead of watching a very interesting video on this history of New France. I am hopeful that students will get things finished in class tomorrow, with finishing touches next Wednesday if they absolutely need it.

Today we had a retest for spelling bee and new people made the team.
Team for  Newton 6/7- Sara Supinen, Emjai Deschamps, Carlos Serrouya, Sophia Laurence.


Banner in the sky sheet due Tuesday. Students explored how Rudi defies authority throughout the book, then they imagine something they have passion for, and what they would do if it was forbidden. Most students finished today, those who did not must hand it in first thing Tuesday morning.

Next Thursday is a pizza lunch! Students will be given two pieces of pizza, please supply other food if your child requires more for lunch, and played send your child with a  plate. The PAC is doing this as a thank you for all the great work done by students at the Christmas Craft Fair!

Today we had a spell off for the spelling bee if your child got in
they will bring home a studying booklet.
MS. Today we started a Mind's Eye for art they are looking great. They are due on next Thursday, remember, they must have the flag of one of these countries: Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain (the nationalities of the Banner in the Sky characters who have the Citadel in their mind's eye), students can also do the Canadian flag.  See images below, or attached.  Ok, I am very proud of myself for getting this inserted onto my blog! 1. Read chapter 10 and 11 (as far as the break on page 146) of Banner in the Sky. Please have your child read the chapter, or read it to them. They will also need to write out the plot for these two  chapters. WE found about 6-9 major points to mention for each chapter. The vocab words are not as important if they could please get the chapters read and the plot.

2. Test them on their 4 x tables, they need it done in less than 15 seconds, please record their time in their agenda.

3. The eye art, as described above. We used half a regular piece of paper.

Today we had a great bullying presentation from students in this class
and they worked very hard on it and it look them a long time to work
on it , it was FANTASTIC.

Today we had a RCMP officer come and talk to us

about bullying, including cyberbullying.  Bullying is very bad and no one 

needs to get bullied because there is help. Contable Park is awesome.
